2024 Land Use Law Update Workshop

This year's program features current trends and issues related to land use law. The morning sessions will delve into strategies for addressing housing shortages at both state and local levels. The mid-morning break will precede a panel discussion aimed at demystifying State Trust Land, with experts shedding light on this complex topic. After a buffet lunch we will have a keynote presentation featuring Trevor Barger, FAICP CUD, Espiritu Loci Incorporated. In the afternoon the focus will shift to legal considerations in housing development, particularly regarding tort claims. A brief afternoon break will lead into sessions providing updates on legislative and case law. This year's conference will be a day of valuable insights and networking opportunities for attendees.

Sessions will include:

  • Demystifying State Trust Land – Legal and practical requirements for working with State Trust Land, including an example project from Queen Creek. 
  • The Implications of Hammer Homes – A discussion of the ongoing Hammer Homes case and how the risk of liability for local governments could impact future communications with planning staff.
  • More Housing, Please: State and Local Approaches – A dive into Arizona state legislation and local government regulations to encourage housing availability and affordability.
  • Legislative and Caselaw Update – Update on recent developments related to land use in Arizona.
  • Keynote – featuring Trevor Barger, FAICP CUD, Espiritu Loci Incorporated.
