Environmentally Sensitive Policy: Adaptation and Collaboration in a Shifting Climate
Join the School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning for the Fall 2026 Planning Practitioner Lecture featuring Jeff Barnes and Jesús Murillo with the City of Scottsdale. This semester’s Planning Practitioner Lecture will provide an overview of proposed updates to the Environmentally Sensitive Lands (ESL) Ordinance and Fire Defensible Space standards. Attendees will learn the purpose of these regulations, why updates are needed, the key issues being addressed, and the ordinance revision process; from drafting and public outreach to public hearings and implementation. The session will conclude with the project's current status and key takeaways for planners and practitioners.
